April 1, 1976: Alfred Hitchcock in his suite at the St. Regis Hotel in New York. “After knighthood,” the caption read, quoting Hitchcock, ” ‘all that was left was to await death, a few vodkas hastening its advent.’ ” A note on the back of the photograph clarified who was directing the photo shoot: “The picture showing Mr. Hitchcock creeping his way through the plant in his room was his idea.” Hitchcock died the following year. American light painting artist Brian Matthew Hart has developed a new series of works. Using light beyond its practicality, Hart sets up living scenarios for which he applies the photographic technique, capturing domestic and whimsical scenes drawn mostly in reds, yellows and greens.

The Observer has a great article on the explosion of Weimar exhibitions in New York City. Among them:

-The Guggenheim’s collection of WWI-era art from Germany.

-The Neue Galerie’s recent Otto Dix exhibition.

-MoMA’s recent and current exhibitions on Weimar and Expressionist Germany.

-Galerie St. Etinne’s impressive collection of Austrian & German Expressionism, mostly of the Weimar period.

We’ve got two great books on the Weimar period. A biography on a well-known actor/dancer during the period, and a look at the erotic side of the Berlin cabaret scene before WWII.
